A RESOLUTION
Recognizing November 1, 2020, as "National Family Literacy Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Nurturing and encouraging reading, writing and
language skills can highly benefit our children; and
WHEREAS, Literacy development is the foundation for success
in academics, interacting with others, developing independence
and more; and
WHEREAS, Early literacy development begins with early
exposure to talking, books and stories and helps the brain form
powerful connections used for language, thinking and
understanding; and
WHEREAS, Regularly established family reading time can foster
a shared love of books, build literacy and reinforce reading and
writing capabilities; and
WHEREAS, Communicating often with your child can help the
child develop the ability to speak, listen and comprehend words;

WHEREAS, On "National Family Literacy Day," schools,
libraries and other literacy organizations sponsor special
events to encourage the habit of reading; and
WHEREAS, "National Family Literacy Day" helps advocate for
intergenerational family literacy programs in schools and
community-based organizations that include instruction for
English language learners and parenting education; and
WHEREAS, "National Family Literacy Day" highlights the
benefits of establishing family time to allow families the space
to talk, read, share stories and learn together; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
November 1, 2020, as "National Family Literacy Day" in
Pennsylvania.
