A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the American Red Cross' emergency call for blood
donations, encouraging the creation of additional blood
drives in this Commonwealth and nationwide and encouraging
all eligible residents to donate blood.
WHEREAS, Blood is being provided to patients at a
disproportionately faster rate than blood is being donated to
the American Red Cross; and
WHEREAS, During the week of July 4, 2019, the American Red
Cross reported more than 450 fewer blood drives took place,
resulting in a loss of an estimated 17,000 blood donations; and
WHEREAS, The declining number of blood donations collected
during the week of July 4, 2019, has resulted in a blood supply
that will only last for three days; and
WHEREAS, The goal of the American Red Cross is to house a
minimum of a five-day supply on hand for the purpose of everyday
treatment of trauma, surgical and cancer patients as well as to
help patients suffering from chronic illnesses; and
