A RESOLUTION
Recognizing October 29, 2019, as "International Data Center Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "International Data Center Day" was created to raise
awareness of the data center industry and to inspire the next
generation of talent in this industry; and
WHEREAS, Data centers are critical to our daily lives and
important to our connected world by providing a mechanism to
conduct digital transactions and store financial information and
vital health records; and
WHEREAS, It is essential that data centers operate 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week without interruption; and
WHEREAS, Data centers must be highly reliable with flawless
data connectivity, great access to power, superior energy
efficiency and highly secure facilities; and
WHEREAS, There are currently more than 8 million data centers
in the world, with data centers consuming more than 2% of all
the electric in the United States; and

WHEREAS, At the present time, there are approximately 63,000
searches performed on search engines every second in data
centers; and
WHEREAS, It is projected that more than 50 billion smart
devices will be in use by 2020, which will require an increase
in data center growth to service those devices; and
WHEREAS, Data centers are and will increasingly become a
supplier of high-paying jobs to citizens of all skill sets with
an industry projected job growth rate of 12% through 2024; and
WHEREAS, The average salary for a data center engineer varies
based on location, however the current estimated average data
center engineer salary is $63,000 per year; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October
29, 2019, as "International Data Center Day" in Pennsylvania in
recognition of the value of the data center industry as a
fundamental part of industry and our economy.
