A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of November 2019 as "National Dog Show
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia's two benched, all-
breed dog shows are held on Saturday, November 16 and Sunday,
November 17, 2019, at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in
Oaks; and
WHEREAS, The shows, sanctioned by the American Kennel Club,
help raise money for a variety of canine-related causes; and
WHEREAS, The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary
Medicine has been a prior beneficiary of the Kennel Club of
Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Saturday's event is The National Dog Show Presented
by Purina which will, for the 18th year in a row, be broadcast
nationwide on Thanksgiving Day by NBC; and
WHEREAS, Sunday's event offers enhanced athletic dog
exhibitions plus family-friendly activities and hands-on fun;

WHEREAS, It is estimated that more than 20 million people
watch the Thanksgiving Day special each year, making it the most
widely viewed dog show in United States history; and
WHEREAS, It is the largest dog show in Pennsylvania and one
of the five largest in America; and
WHEREAS, Since hosting a major dog event in 1876 at the
Centennial Exposition, Philadelphia has been at the forefront of
the purebred dog world; and
WHEREAS, Unlike the more common "show and go" format, benched
shows require exhibitors to remain in the building for the day,
allowing the public to meet and greet the canines and interact
with the canines' owners, breeders and handlers; and
WHEREAS, Now almost a lost tradition, only three benched
shows remain nationwide; and
WHEREAS, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia promotes the
National Dog Show Therapy Dog Ambassador Team, advancing the use
of trained and certified canines to provide comfort and
companionship to individuals who are aged or infirm; and
WHEREAS, The National Dog Show Charity Walk kicks off
"National Dog Show Month" on October 13, 2019, at Wilson Farm
Park in Wayne, Chester County; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of November 2019 as "National Dog Show Month" in
Pennsylvania.
