A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of June 1 through June 9, 2019, as "Fishing
and Boating Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Fishing and boating are gateway activities leading
to involvement in other outdoor activities; and
WHEREAS, Fishing and boating are affordable and provide local
enjoyment for families; and
WHEREAS, Fishing and boating help protect national and state
waterways and fisheries, preserving them for future generations;
and
WHEREAS, "National Fishing and Boating Week" began as
"National Fishing Week" in 1979 when industry and conservation
leaders, state natural resource agencies and anglers organized a
unified effort to introduce more young people to the sport of
fishing and to outdoor conservation; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, the Recreational Boating and Fishing
Foundation (RBFF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing

participation in fishing, boating and aquatic stewardship, took
responsibility for "National Fishing and Boating Week"; and
WHEREAS, The RBFF reports that in 2017, 49.1 million
Americans 6 years of age or older participated in fishing, while
the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission serves 1.5 million
anglers and 3 million boaters annually; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 40th anniversary of "National
Fishing and Boating Week"; and
WHEREAS, The RBFF encourages our fish and wildlife agencies
to participate in Free Fishing Days, in which Pennsylvania
participates twice each year through the Pennsylvania Fish and
Boat Commission, permitting persons to fish in waters and
waterways on these dedicated days without a fishing license;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of June 1 through 9, 2019, as "Fishing and Boating Week" in
Pennsylvania.
