A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of May 19 through 25, 2019, as "Emergency
Medical Services Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Emergency medical services are vital community-based
public services; and
WHEREAS, Access to quality out-of-hospital treatment and
emergency medical care dramatically improves survival and
recovery rates; and
WHEREAS, Members of emergency medical services teams are
ready to provide lifesaving care 24 hours a day, seven days a
week; and
WHEREAS, Whether career or volunteer, emergency medical
services professionals develop their lifesaving skills through
thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing

education; and
WHEREAS, The emergency medical services workforce integrates
emergency physicians, emergency nurses, rescue personnel,
emergency medical technicians and advanced emergency medical
technicians; and
WHEREAS, The workforce further integrates paramedics,
prehospital nurses, prehospital physician extenders, air medical
personnel, emergency medical responders, emergency vehicle
operators, firefighters, police officers, educators,
dispatchers, administrators and other out-of-hospital medical
care providers; and
WHEREAS, The theme of the 2019 "Emergency Medical Services
Week" observance, "EMS Strong: Beyond the Call," reflects the
unified purpose and focus of these professionals, who are a part
of the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Their training, readiness and acceptance of
operational risks reduces loss of life, prevents disability and
strengthens local health care safety nets; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of May 19 through 25, 2019, as "Emergency Medical Services
Week" in Pennsylvania.
