A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of May 5 through 11, 2019, as "Affordable
Housing Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "Affordable Housing Week" is dedicated to housing
affordability and to helping all Pennsylvanians find a safe and
economical place to live; and
WHEREAS, On May 8th and 9th, the Pennsylvania Housing Finance
Agency will be presenting the 2019 Housing Forum which brings
together nearly 700 influential decision makers from across this
Commonwealth to address future affordable housing stock; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency plays a
vital role in this Commonwealth by leading the development of
affordable rental housing and by providing mortgage products for
low-income and moderate-income families who are ready for the
responsibilities of home ownership; and
WHEREAS, According to the United States Census Bureau, home

ownership rates are still below the rates recorded before the
2008 recession; and
WHEREAS, Too many Pennsylvanians who have extremely low
incomes are burdened by rent and experience housing insecurity;
and
WHEREAS, Housing is considered affordable if housing costs
take up no more than 30% of a household's income, yet nearly
half of all Pennsylvanians pay more than 30% of their income on
rent and utilities combined; and
WHEREAS, Affordable housing is critical for helping
Pennsylvanians reach their full potential; and
WHEREAS, When housing is readily available, it helps families
come together, supports community stability and vitality and
provides economic stimulus that benefits everyone; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of May 5 through 11, 2019, as "Affordable Housing Week" in
Pennsylvania.
