A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and service of Sergeant Benjamin S. Hines, who
tragically lost his life in the line of duty while serving
the United States Marine Corps, and extending condolences to
his family and friends.
WHEREAS, On April 8, 2019, Sergeant Benjamin S. Hines was one
of three United States Marines killed in the line of duty while
conducting combat operations near Bagram Airfield, Bagram,
Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Hines was from York County and graduated in
2006 from Dallastown Area High School; and
WHEREAS, He was a member of the ROTC and the football team
while in high school; and
WHEREAS, After high school, he joined the United States
Marine Corps and completed his recruit training in January 2007;

WHEREAS, He was serving in his third deployment, and over the
course of his career he had earned several medals, including a
Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, an Afghanistan Campaign
Medal, two Iraq Campaign Medals and a Meritorious Mast
signifying noteworthy performance; and
WHEREAS, Two of the fallen Marines were assigned to 2nd
Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Hines' unit was based in Harrisburg,
Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, The men had deployed to Afghanistan in October 2018
as part of a program in which Marines train and advise Georgian
infantry troops on the NATO mission; and
WHEREAS, Tragically, the three men were just 10 days from
returning home; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life
and service of Sergeant Benjamin S. Hines, who tragically lost
his life in the line of duty while serving the United States
Marine Corps, and extending condolences to his family and
friends.
