A RESOLUTION
Designating April 28, 2019, as "Workers' Memorial Day" in
Pennsylvania in memory of workers killed, injured and
disabled in the workplace and in recognition of the efforts
of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Labor Council and the 12th annual
local "Workers' Memorial Day" program and candlelight vigil
service.
WHEREAS, Every year in America, a great number of workers are
killed as a result of workplace injuries and occupational
diseases; and
WHEREAS, The Federal Bureau of Labor and Statistics has
reported that 5,147 workers suffered fatal injuries in the
workplace in 2017; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, 173 Pennsylvania workers lost their lives
due to fatal accidents in the workplace; and
WHEREAS, While the official "National Workers' Memorial Day"
is celebrated annually on April 28, the Greater Wilkes-Barre
Labor Council and other concerned residents are determined to
prevent these tragedies with a local observation of "National
