A RESOLUTION
Recognizing 2019 as the 80th anniversary of Junior Achievement
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Junior Achievement (JA) is the world's largest
organization dedicated to educating students about workforce
readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through
experiential hands-on programs; and
WHEREAS, This year 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of JA in
the United States; and
WHEREAS, Over 6,000 business, community and parent classroom
mentor volunteers touch the lives of more than 200,000 students
in kindergarten through grade 12 in public and private school
systems in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, JA prepares students to be the workers, leaders and
educated consumers of tomorrow with a message of hope and
prosperity for the future; and

WHEREAS, Programs in JA help prepare the youth of this
country for adulthood by showing them how to generate and
effectively manage wealth, how to create jobs which make their
communities more robust and how to apply entrepreneurial
thinking to the workplace; and
WHEREAS, One of JA's workforce development programs is JA
BizTown, a program designed to introduce 5th and 6th grade
students in York, Scranton and Bridgeville to a wide range of
careers through a mock town experiential learning facility and
in-class instruction; and
WHEREAS, JA programs align with the Pennsylvania Department
of Education's Career Education and Work Standards and Future
Ready PA Index; and
WHEREAS, JA's blended online and in-class instruction
learning programs have been funded the last three fiscal years
through the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Job Training
and Education Programs; and
WHEREAS, JA empowers young people to own their economic
success; and
WHEREAS, JA believes in the boundless potential of young
people, is committed to the principles of market-based economics
and entrepreneurship and is passionate about achieving the
program goals while practicing honesty, integrity and
excellence; and
WHEREAS, JA respects the talents, creativity, perspectives
and backgrounds of all individuals while believing in the power
of partnership, collaboration and conviction in the educational
and motivational impact of relevant hands-on learning; and
WHEREAS, JA sustains democratic principles by strengthening
communities with proven programs that focus on work readiness,

entrepreneurship and financial literacy; and
WHEREAS, In 2019, JA of western Pennsylvania commemorates the
80th anniversary of its founding as the first local area
chapter; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize 2019 as
the 80th anniversary of Junior Achievement in Pennsylvania; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
Dennis Gilfoyle, President and CEO, Junior Achievement of
Western Pennsylvania, 90 Emerson Lane, Suite 1403, Bridgeville,
PA 15017.
