A RESOLUTION
Honoring the late Marine Corps Private First Class Andrew Joseph
Kukuruda of the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County.
WHEREAS, A machine gunner assigned to 3rd Marine Division,
3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, M Company, PFC Andrew Joseph
Kukuruda was fatally wounded in a combat zone in Quang Tri
Province, Vietnam, on March 14, 1969; and
WHEREAS, PFC Kukuruda and other servicepersons were killed or
wounded that day as they fought to retake a Marine landing zone
during the Tet 69 Counteroffensive Campaign, Operation Purple
Martin; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 3, 1950, PFC Kukuruda lived with
his family in the Crafton Heights neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, PFC Kukuruda was a 1968 graduate of Langley High
School, where he was a varsity swimmer; and
WHEREAS, January 22, 1969, was the start of PFC Kukuruda's
tour of duty in Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, PFC Kukuruda is interred at Saint Martin Cemetery in
the West End, and his name is inscribed in the black granite of
the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the General Assembly honor the late Marine
Corps Private First Class Andrew Joseph Kukuruda of the City of
Pittsburgh, Allegheny County.
