A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of January 27 through February 2, 2019, as
"Physician Anesthesiologist Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Anesthesiologists are physicians who specialize in
developing anesthetic plans and administering anesthetics; and
WHEREAS, Anesthesiologists often undergo at least 12 years of
higher education and training, including undergraduate school,
medical school and a four-year residency program; and
WHEREAS, Anesthesiologists complete all courses relevant to
the practice of medicine and are prepared to diagnose patients
and manage surgical complications during emergency situations;
and
WHEREAS, Prior to practicing independently, anesthesiologists
accumulate between 12,000 and 16,000 hours of clinical patient
care; and
WHEREAS, Anesthesiologists are a critical part of a patient's
surgical team, as they evaluate a patient's health prior to the

procedure, administer the anesthesia, monitor the patient during
surgery and assess the patient's status after the procedure is
complete; and
WHEREAS, Anesthesiologists provide anesthesia for almost 90
million medical procedures every year in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists is
dedicated to providing the safest, high-quality physician-led
care and to creating a better future through innovation,
cutting-edge medicine, advocacy and education; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of January 27 through February 2, 2019, as "Physician
Anesthesiologist Week" in Pennsylvania.
