A RESOLUTION
Designating February 22, 2019, as "Keith Valley Challenge Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, In 1977, Keith Valley Middle School in Montgomery
County held a floor hockey marathon to honor the memory of Billy
Whitehead, an eighth grade student who passed away due to a rare
congenital heart defect; and
WHEREAS, In his memory, the staff and eighth grade students
at the school began holding the Billy Whitehead Marathon and
pledged to raise money on an annual basis for St. Christopher's
Hospital for Children, located in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, The marathon was renamed the Keith Valley Challenge
in 1981, and students began to donate money raised during the
event to additional charities; and
WHEREAS, The Keith Valley Challenge is a 17-hour nonstop
floor hockey marathon; and
WHEREAS, Last year's challenge raised $41,009; and

WHEREAS, Over the last 42 years, Keith Valley students have
raised and donated more than $1,100,838 to at least 14
charities, including the American Cancer Society, the American
Heart Association, the ALS Foundation and the Ronald McDonald
House; and
WHEREAS, This year, students are raising money for the Make-
A-Wish Foundation; and
WHEREAS, The 43rd annual Keith Valley Challenge is scheduled
to kick off on February 22, 2019; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
February 22, 2019, as "Keith Valley Challenge Day" in
Pennsylvania.
