AN ACT
Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
Statutes, in financial responsibility, further providing for
required financial responsibility.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 1786(d)(6) of Title 75 of the
Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is amended and and subsection
(d) is amended by adding a paragraph to read:
ยง 1786. Required financial responsibility.

(d) Suspension of registration and operating privilege.--

(1.2) In lieu of serving an operating privilege
suspension imposed under this section, an owner or registrant
may pay to the department a civil penalty of $500, the
restoration fee prescribed under section 1960 and furnish
proof of financial responsibility in a manner determined by
the department. An owner or registrant may exercise this

option no more than once in a five-year period.

(6) The civil penalty collected under [paragraph]
paragraphs (1.1) and (1.2) shall be deposited into the Public
Transportation Trust Fund.

Section 2. This act shall take effect in nine months.
