AN ACT
Designating the Faxon Interchange of Interstate 180 at Northway
Road in Loyalsock Township, Lycoming County, as the United
States Army Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr., and United States
Marine Corps Sgt. Hamilton T. Woodruff Memorial Interchange.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. United States Army Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr., and
United States Marine Corps Sgt. Hamilton T. Woodruff
Memorial Interchange.
(a) Findings.--
(1) United States Army Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr.,
lived most of his life in Loyalsock Township.
(2) Sgt. Thomas Woodruff served in the United States
Army during the Korean Conflict as a supply sergeant. After
returning home from active duty, he continued a life of
service.
(3) In 1948, Sgt. Thomas Woodruff joined the Loyalsock

Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, where he served in
various capacities.
(4) In addition to being appointed Justice of the Peace,
Sgt. Thomas Woodruff was also elected as a member of the
Loyalsock Township School Board.
(5) Sadly in May 2000, after battling cancer, Sgt.
Thomas Woodruff passed away.
(6) He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former
Shirley Boyer, and children Carol (Dave) Yorks, Thomas (Tami)
Woodruff, Jr., Howard (Dawn) Woodruff, Robert Woodruff and
Susan (Scott) Lorson. He also is survived by two
granddaughters, six grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
(7) Sgt. Thomas Woodruff's grandson, United States
Marine Corps Sgt. Hamilton T. Woodruff, was born in
Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
(8) Sgt. Hamilton Woodruff attended DuBoistown
Elementary School, South Williamsport Area Junior High School
and Mansfield Area High School, where he graduated as the
president and salutatorian of his class in 2004. Between his
junior and senior years, he accepted early enlistment in the
United States Marine Corps.
(9) While serving in the United States Marine Corps,
Sgt. Hamilton Woodruff served as an Arabic translator. As a
member of the Recon Group, Sgt. Hamilton Woodruff intercepted
and interpreted communications that had targeted his fellow
troops.
(10) On April 13, 2009, Sgt. Hamilton Woodruff was
involved in a vehicle accident while returning to Camp
Lejeune, North Carolina, and died the next day, April 14,
2009.

(11) Sgt. Hamilton Woodruff posthumously received a Navy
and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his lifesaving work in
the Marine Corps.
(b) Designation.--The Faxon Interchange of Interstate 180 at
Northway Road in Loyalsock Township, Lycoming County, is
designated as the United States Army Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff,
Sr., and United States Marine Corps Sgt. Hamilton T. Woodruff
Memorial Interchange.
(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to
traffic in both directions on the highway.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
