A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of May 2018 as "Melanoma and Skin Cancer
Detection and Prevention Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Most people do not realize that skin is the largest
and most visible organ of the body and performs many essential
tasks such as regulating body temperature, protecting internal
organs, providing sensation and supporting metabolic functions;
and
WHEREAS, One in five Americans are likely to develop skin
cancer in their lifetime; and
WHEREAS, More than 2 million cases of nonmelanoma skin cancer
are diagnosed in the United States each year; and
WHEREAS, Estimates show there will be 91,270 new cases of
melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, diagnosed in the
United States in 2018; and
WHEREAS, Melanoma is the most common form of cancer for young
adults between 25 and 29 years of age and the second most common
