A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of October 22 through 28, 2017, as "Pro
Bono Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania attorneys provide legal assistance at
low cost or no cost, commonly referred to as "pro bono" work, to
more than 100,000 low-income clients each year; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania attorneys annually handle 10,000
mortgage foreclosure cases and 12,000 domestic violence cases on
a pro bono basis; and
WHEREAS, The week of October 22 through 28, 2017, marks the
ninth "National Pro Bono Week"; and
WHEREAS, "National Pro Bono Week" is an opportunity to
highlight the differences lawyers make in their communities, to
recruit and train more pro bono volunteers and to acknowledge
the partnerships that form the basis for many of the private
bar's most successful pro bono efforts; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Bar Association is joining with the
American Bar Association to sponsor this October's annual

"National Pro Bono Week" celebration; and
WHEREAS, "National Pro Bono Week" provides numerous
opportunities to highlight the good work Pennsylvania attorneys
do for the neediest among us; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a leader in celebrating "National
Pro Bono Week," with reoccurring annual events at many sites
across this Commonwealth, from the Driver's License Intake
Clinic in Dauphin County on Monday, October 23, 2017, to the
Pennsylvania Bar Association's Statewide Jeans for Justice
initiative on October 27, 2017; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of October 22
through 28, 2017, as "Pro Bono Week" in Pennsylvania.
