A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of May 2017 as "Older Americans Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Older adults deserve recognition for their gifts and
sacrifices made on behalf of future generations; and
WHEREAS, Each year since 1963, our nation has honored the
legacies and ongoing contributions of older Americans during the
month of May; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the Older
Americans Act, signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson in
1965; and
WHEREAS, The Older Americans Act continues to provide
nationwide coordinated community social services, technical
assistance, funding and other resources for the benefit of older
Americans; and
WHEREAS, The theme of this year's observance, "Age Out Loud,"
gives older Americans the opportunity to highlight the many
important issues and trends that affect older Americans; and

WHEREAS, Medical and technological innovations have promoted
greater longevity and social inclusion; and
WHEREAS, Home-based services and community-based services
have further supported independent living; and
WHEREAS, The Senate celebrates the breadth of experience
among older adults and values their transition into new phases
of life; and
WHEREAS, The Senate is committed to helping older adults live
longer, healthier lives in the communities of their choice for
as long as possible; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of May 2017 as
"Older Americans Month" in Pennsylvania.
