A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of September 2018 as "Military Service
Opportunity Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The United States military is recognized as our
nation's top security force and defender of our national
interests around the world; and
WHEREAS, The United States military has a tactical awareness
in improving student academic achievement and is one of the
leading Federal organizations that supports and invests in
educational initiatives around the country; and
WHEREAS, The United States military contributes to the well-
being of students within this Commonwealth by offering personal
advancement through educational programs beginning at the middle
school and high school level; and
WHEREAS, As a valuable asset to all students, military
members work side-by-side with their civilian counterparts to
enhance the delivery of high-quality services to our youths,
while promoting patriotism; and

WHEREAS, Military recruiters offer physical fitness programs
to all students to fight the obesity epidemic in the United
States; and
WHEREAS, Military recruiters provide leadership development
and antibullying and antidrug educational programs and programs
that enhance the science, technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM) curricula; and
WHEREAS, The United States military has earned the respect of
the entire world as a leader of technology and personal
advancement through the protection and defense of civil
liberties; and
WHEREAS, United States military members are academically and
professionally prepared to provide a multitude of career
services to our nation, including, but not limited to, a full
range of medical services, cyber security, law enforcement
services, comprehensive legal services, a full range of
engineering services, comprehensive satellite technology,
communications and network development and logistical and
administrative support; and
WHEREAS, The United States military has an outstanding
reputation for recruiting volunteers inspired by a sense of duty
to the nation and a desire to become members of the world's
greatest military force; and
WHEREAS, Members of the United States military are recognized
for their dedication and contributions to people's lives and for
working together as a team; and
WHEREAS, Generations of remarkable citizens have pledged to
defend our homeland and our nation through service in the United
States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard,
including National Guard and Reserve components; and

WHEREAS, A mission of the United States military is to
authentically inform school communities of college and career
opportunities available to all students through military
enlistment; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of September
2018 as "Military Service Opportunity Month" in Pennsylvania;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage school communities in
this Commonwealth to consider offering a "Military Opportunities
Day" presentation in September or another time during the school
year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage the residents and school
communities in this Commonwealth to recognize the United States
military as a viable post-secondary pathway to be incorporated
into the career planning and counseling process.
