A RESOLUTION
Directing the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a
comprehensive review of school safety in this Commonwealth
and report its findings to the Senate.
WHEREAS, All students and staff members in this Commonwealth
deserve to attend and work in schools that are safe and free
from the threat of violence; and
WHEREAS, The most effective approach to creating safe school
environments requires a comprehensive, coordinated effort by
individual schools, school districts and community leaders; and
WHEREAS, Many school districts in this Commonwealth have
implemented policies requiring individual school and
districtwide safety plans, conducted regular audits, deployed
security technology and personnel, conducted drills, provided
training for school employees and implemented partnerships with
local law enforcement and other community agencies to prevent
school violence; and
WHEREAS, In the light of violence in schools and other
populated areas, the Senate recognizes the value of studying
