A RESOLUTION
Recognizing April 10, 2018, as "National Youth HIV & AIDS
Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The National HIV/AIDS Strategy for the United
States: Updated to 2020, released in July 2015, reflects recent
scientific developments and calls for collective action to
reduce new HIV infections, increase access to care, improve
health outcomes, address related health disparities and attain a
more coordinated national response; and
WHEREAS, The national strategy further prioritizes the
reduction of HIV infection among youths; and
WHEREAS, The particular burden and impact of HIV/AIDS among
young people is a focus of "National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness
Day," an annual observance sponsored by the nonprofit
organization Advocates for Youth; and
WHEREAS, Many young people now living with HIV were born with
the virus; and

WHEREAS, According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, 31,300 individuals 13 to 24 years of age living with
HIV did not know of their HIV-positive status each month during
any given year; and
WHEREAS, "National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day" highlights
the contributions of young people in the fight against HIV/AIDS,
including their definitive actions to prevent HIV exposure and
transmission; and
WHEREAS, Young people in our communities have earned
recognition for their participation in evidence-based HIV
prevention strategies, their efforts to combat HIV-related bias
and discrimination and their pursuit of universal access to
quality care; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize April
10, 2018, as "National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day" in
Pennsylvania.
