A RESOLUTION
Commemorating the friendship and bilateral relationship between
the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Taiwan.
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Taiwan have a
long history of close relations that are mutually beneficial,
Taiwan being an important economic, security and cultural
partner; and
WHEREAS, Taiwan is the 11th largest trading partner of the
United States, with bilateral trade totaling $68.2 billion in
2017; and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania established a trade
and investment office in Taiwan in 2005, which promotes a
fruitful relationship of economic cooperation between the two
sides; and
WHEREAS, Taiwan is the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's 7th
largest export market in Asia, and the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania is home to a growing number of Taiwanese companies
that create thousands of jobs in this Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Life Sciences Pennsylvania, formerly Pennsylvania
Bio, signed a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan Bio
Industry Organization in 2015, which has fostered new business
opportunities, partnerships and research collaboration; and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Taiwan signed
an intergovernmental agreement regarding the mutual recognition
of driver's licenses in 2015, which created greater convenience
for the people on both sides and deepens relations between
Taiwan and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania commemorate the friendship and
bilateral relationship between the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
and Taiwan; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania support the enhancement of the
friendship and bilateral relationship between the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania and Taiwan; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan through the Taipei Economic and
Cultural Office in New York.
