A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the Signature Learning Experiences program of
Elizabethtown College.
WHEREAS, Elizabethtown College, located in Elizabethtown,
Pennsylvania, has become one of the national models for
embedding real-world learning experiences into the standard
college curriculum; and
WHEREAS, Elizabethtown College was one of eight colleges and
universities selected by the Association of American Colleges &
Universities (AAC&U) in 2015 to participate in an Arthur Vining
Davis Foundations funded project to showcase capstones and
signature works; and
WHEREAS, The projects and results were published in AAC&U's
Spring 2018 issue of Peer Review; and
WHEREAS, For the project, Elizabethtown College established a
Signature Learning Experiences program which required the
graduating classes of 2017 and 2018 to complete an additional

two projects as part of the graduation requirements; and
WHEREAS, Projects can include supervised research, cross-
cultural experiences or exchanges, internships, field
experiences or practicums, community-based learning or a
capstone course, project or developmental portfolio; and
WHEREAS, The program is incorporated into each year of study
from a first-year seminar to a second-year experience for
purposeful life work, culminating with a capstone course; and
WHEREAS, Other colleges and universities may institute this
groundbreaking project to provide not only diverse experiences
but also real-world practical knowledge; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
Signature Learning Experiences program of Elizabethtown College.
