A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Robert
F. Kennedy and honoring Robert F. Kennedy on this momentous
and solemn occasion.
WHEREAS, Robert F. Kennedy was shot on June 5, 1968, at the
Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California, and died a day
later; and
WHEREAS, His shooting and his death, along with the
assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., less than two
months before, was a defining moment of one of the most
turbulent periods in our nation's history; and
WHEREAS, Robert F. Kennedy served as United States Attorney
General and a United States Senator and was a prominent figure
in the United States Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s; and
WHEREAS, Robert F. Kennedy dedicated his life to public
service in the pursuit of justice and equality for all; and

WHEREAS, The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human
Rights was founded in 1968, with an international award program
to recognize human rights activists; and
WHEREAS, Robert F. Kennedy said, "Some people see things as
they are and say, 'Why?' I dream things that never were and say,
'Why not?'"; and
WHEREAS, Fifty years ago, an influential voice for progress
and equality was lost when Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
50th anniversary of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy and
honor Robert F. Kennedy on this momentous and solemn occasion.
