A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and service of Sergeant Mark J. Baserman, who
tragically lost his life in the line of duty, and extending
condolences to his family and friends.
WHEREAS, On February 26, 2018, Sergeant Mark J. Baserman, a
veteran State corrections officer, succumbed to injuries he
sustained when assaulted by an inmate at State Correctional
Institute-Somerset; and
WHEREAS, Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, on August 21, 1957,
Sergeant Baserman was the son of Lucille A. Cenney Baserman and
the late James W. Baserman; and
WHEREAS, A 1975 graduate of the Greater Johnstown Vocational-
Technical High School, Sergeant Baserman served this country
with honor and distinction as a member of the United States
Army; and
WHEREAS, A volunteer with the Oakland Volunteer Fire Company,
Sergeant Baserman was employed as an emergency medical

technician at East Hills Ambulance Service for more than 20
years; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Baserman began employment with the
Department of Corrections in 2007 at State Correctional
Institute-Cresson and in 2012 began working at State
Correctional Institute-Somerset, where he was promoted to
sergeant in 2016; and
WHEREAS, At the time of his death Sergeant Baserman was a
resident of the Oakland neighborhood in Stonycreek Township,
Cambria County; and
WHEREAS, A beloved family member and dedicated worker,
Sergeant Baserman generously gave his heart and time to enhance
the quality of life of his family and community, and his loss
will be felt by the many individuals who knew, admired and loved
him; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life
and service of Sergeant Mark J. Baserman and extend condolences
to his wife, Rebecca Lynn Parrish Yeager; mother, Lucille A.
Cenney Baserman; stepdaughter, Jacqueline Yeager Holbay; six
stepgrandchildren; brother, Paul Baserman; and many other family
members and friends.
