A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of May 20 through 26, 2018, as "Character
Development Reminder Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Constitution of Pennsylvania, this
Commonwealth's foundational document, recognizes and celebrates
some of the qualities of character which are fundamental to the
success of representative democracy, including peace, faith,
tolerance and respect; and
WHEREAS, Recognition and promotion of exemplary character is
an important part of the fabric of State government; and
WHEREAS, There are numerous House resolutions introduced to
honor the character of individuals and institutions; and
WHEREAS, The figures over the second floor entrance to the
House Chamber represent "Truth" and "Justice"; and
WHEREAS, The William Penn quote inscribed around the State
Capitol Rotunda includes the reminder, "That we may do the thing
that is truly wise and just"; and

WHEREAS, The statuary figures located to the left of the main
doors to the State Capitol Building are entitled "Labor and
Love/The Unbroken Law" and represent work and brotherhood; and
WHEREAS, The painting entitled "Divine Law," above the center
door of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court chamber, includes the
words "love" and "wisdom"; and
WHEREAS, Character reflects those universal principles of
moral strength and integrity that lead to good people and good
societies; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of May 20 through 26, 2018, as "Character Development
Reminder Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives promote character
development for the mutual benefit of both individuals and civil
society; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
the Department of Education of the Commonwealth in order to
promote character development in Pennsylvania schools.
