A RESOLUTION
Recognizing May 12, 2018, as the second annual "Philadelphia
Literacy Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives acknowledges the
benefits of reading and writing proficiency attained through
early literacy education, adult literacy education and lifelong
learning; and
WHEREAS, The second annual "Philadelphia Literacy Day,"
slated for the Saturday before Mother's Day, is presented by
Tree House Books in partnership with Read by 4th and the United
Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Children, families, educators, librarians, regional
partners, book lovers and celebrated authors are coming together
for this free literacy celebration; and
WHEREAS, Family events are being held this year at Smith
Memorial Playground in East Fairmount Park; and
WHEREAS, The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on the
Avenue of the Arts in Center City is a satellite site for other

family events; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives notes the personal
determination and collective action required for Philadelphians
and other residents of this Commonwealth to build and broaden
their ability to read, write, speak and listen; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives joins in celebrating
the acquisition of these communication skills through
comprehensive community-based literacy initiatives; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 12,
2018, as the second annual "Philadelphia Literacy Day" in
Pennsylvania.
