Criminal Justice and Community Relations Taskforce and was 1 of
10 Americans recognized by the White House for her service
through Champions of Change in the Educational Excellence for
African Americans program; and
WHEREAS, The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh provides
classes and activities for families to promote healthy growth
and development for children as well as support for parents; and
WHEREAS, The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh promotes
leadership and scholarship among African-American children,
sponsoring leadership programs for teens and free academic
programs to encourage young students to explore STEM fields; and
WHEREAS, The organization has worked to improve the high
school graduation rate in the Greater Pittsburgh area and
encourage and assist students in applying to postsecondary
education programs; and
WHEREAS, The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh supports
impoverished seniors by providing them with free job training
and placement for in-demand jobs and pays the employee's salary
or wages for a period of time if necessary; and
WHEREAS, The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh provides
financial education, credit counseling, rental assistance and
banking services in order to promote financial stability and
break the cycle of poverty; and
WHEREAS, For a century the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh
has continued to be guided by its founding principles of
enabling African Americans to secure economic self-reliance,
parity and power and civil rights, as well as ensuring social,
political and economic justice for all Americans; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the
