A RESOLUTION
Honoring the 50th anniversary of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood,
the beloved children's program created by Fred Rogers, native
of the City of Latrobe in Westmoreland County, that greatly
impacted generations of children.
WHEREAS, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood first aired on the
National Educational Television network on February 19, 1968,
with Fred Rogers serving as host, executive producer, writer,
composer and puppeteer; and
WHEREAS, Fred Rogers sought to help young children understand
the world and their place in it; and
WHEREAS, The program prepared children for school and life by
providing them with the vital skills they needed for development
such as cooperation, patience, sharing, the ability to pay
attention and the ability to express their feelings and manage
frustrations; and
WHEREAS, Fred Rogers encouraged children to develop a healthy

curiosity, imagination and appreciation of others and the world
around them; and
WHEREAS, He taught children the value in being a good friend
and neighbor and empowered them to be brave and believe in
themselves; and
WHEREAS, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood enjoyed a run of 895
episodes over the course of 33 years before its final episode
aired on the Public Broadcasting Service network on August 31,
2001; and
WHEREAS, Fred Rogers' simple message of love and
understanding connected with generations of children and adults;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the 50th
anniversary of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, the beloved
children's program created by native Fred Rodgers of the City of
Latrobe in Westmoreland County, that greatly impacted
generations of children.
