A RESOLUTION
Recognizing February 15, 2018, as "International Childhood
Cancer Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "International Childhood Cancer Day" highlights the
need for global action to address the growing challenge posed by
childhood cancer; and
WHEREAS, Childhood cancer is poised to surpass infectious
diseases as one of the highest causes of disease-related
mortality in children; and
WHEREAS, The reported worldwide incidence of childhood cancer
is increasing with many cancer cases remaining unreported due to
a lack of childhood cancer registries in a large number of
countries; and
WHEREAS, Many childhood cancers are curable but children and
adolescents in impoverished countries have no hope to overcome
the disease because of lack of access to lifesaving medicines
and appropriate treatment; and

WHEREAS, The 188 member organizations from 93 countries that
make up Childhood Cancer International and the 1,800 health care
professionals from 110 countries that make up the International
Society of Paediatric Oncology have organized "International
Childhood Cancer Day" to ensure children and adolescents
everywhere have the chance to survive cancer and live long,
productive and meaningful lives; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
February 15, 2018, as "International Childhood Cancer Day" in
Pennsylvania.
