A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of November 2017 as "American Made Month"
in Pennsylvania and encouraging the purchase of American-made
products.
WHEREAS, "American Made Month" is being recognized nationwide
during the month of November 2017; and
WHEREAS, "American Made Month" highlights efforts to expand
jobs for Americans and unite national, state and local
businesses that manufacture, assemble, promote, distribute and
sell American-made products; and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing has steadily declined in the United
States and this Commonwealth due in part to less costly imported
products; and
WHEREAS, The decline of manufacturing has led to fewer
family-sustaining jobs and attendant hardships for families and
the communities in which they live and work; and

WHEREAS, Despite the decline of manufacturing, high-quality
products made by American workers are supplied by manufacturers
across the nation and this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The United States Bureau of Economic Analysis
reports that each dollar spent on American-made goods equates to
an investment of an additional $1.35 in the United States
economy; and
WHEREAS, According to manufacturing.gov, a national advanced
manufacturing portal and information clearinghouse, one new
manufacturing job creates 1.6 additional jobs in local service
businesses; and
WHEREAS, Jobs in high-tech manufacturing industries generate
up to five local service jobs and demand in other industries,
such as technology, supply chain management and logistics; and
WHEREAS, The average American will spend approximately $800
on gifts this year; and
WHEREAS, If only half this amount were spent on gifts made in
the United States, up to 1 million American jobs would be
created; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of November 2017 as "American Made Month" in Pennsylvania
and encourage the purchase of American-made products in support
of American businesses and workers.
