A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of September 24 through 30, 2017, as
"National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The literacy of the residents of Pennsylvania is
essential for their economic well-being and for the prosperity
of this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Without literacy skills, an individual's ability to
complete high school or an equivalency program, continue onto a
postsecondary degree or complete a job training program is
negatively impacted; and
WHEREAS, A lack of literacy skills increases an individual's
chances of encountering unemployment or underemployment, which
may impede the individual's ability to provide for his or her
family; and
WHEREAS, Literacy among adults is key to ensuring the
educational success of future generations, with research showing
