A RESOLUTION
Congratulating The Pennsylvania State University men's
volleyball team on its Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball
Association Championship win and its continued success both
athletically and academically.
WHEREAS, On April 22, 2017, the Penn State men's volleyball
team secured the 30th Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball
Association (EIVA) Championship by sweeping Saint Francis
University 3-0; and
WHEREAS, The Penn State men's volleyball team captured its
18th EIVA tournament title in the past 19 years; and
WHEREAS, Senior Chris Nugent was named the Most Outstanding
Player after amassing nine kills on 16 swings and a total of 24
kills for the tournament; and
WHEREAS, Along with Chris Nugent, freshman Luke Braswell,
junior Aidan Albrecht and redshirt-freshman Calvin Mende were
named to the All-EIVA Tournament Team for their outstanding

performances; and
WHEREAS, After the tournament win, the Nittany Lions lost to
the University of Hawaii at Manoa in a hard-fought match by a
score of 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA men's volleyball
tournament; and
WHEREAS, Chris Nugent and Calvin Mende were named American
Volleyball Coaches Association All-Americans, improving Penn
State's total number of AVCA All-Americans to 84 since 1971; and
WHEREAS, Under the direction of Head Coach Mark Pavlik, the
Nittany Lions men's volleyball team finished its regular season
with 21 wins and 10 losses; and
WHEREAS, The Penn State men's volleyball team also enjoyed
academic success, earning an Academic Progress Rate perfect
score; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate The
Pennsylvania State University men's volleyball team on its
Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Championship win
and its continued success both athletically and academically.
