INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
JUNE 12, 2017
A RESOLUTION
Congratulating The Pennsylvania State University Field Hockey
Team on winning the 2016 Big Ten Championship on November 6,
2016.
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University Field Hockey Team
defeated the University of Maryland 2-1, capturing a conference
record seventh Big Ten Championship title; and
WHEREAS, Penn State's field hockey team's prior Big Ten
Championship titles were awarded in back-to-back seasons in 2011
and 2012; and
WHEREAS, The Nittany Lions edged out the number-three-ranked
Terrapins, avenging their 5-4 regular season loss to Maryland;
and
WHEREAS, Down 1-0 at the half, the Nittany Lions controlled
the second half, as Gini Bramley, who was named tournament Most
Valuable Player, and Aurelia Meijer each netted a goal to

advance the Lions past the Terrapins; and
WHEREAS, During Big Ten action, Penn State went 6-2 and
finished second in the regular season before advancing to the
finals of the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament; and
WHEREAS, The season was highlighted by eight victories over
ranked opponents and Penn State was top ranked on both sides of
the ball; and
WHEREAS, Penn State field hockey is ranked in the top five in
the nation in several categories, including win percentage at
0.895, scoring margin at 2.58, points per game at 11.16 and
penalty corners per game at 8.26; and
WHEREAS, Despite having a young team consisting of six
starters in either their freshman or sophomore seasons, Head
Coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss guided the Nittany Lions to a 17-3
record and a berth in the National Collegiate Athletic
Association tournament; and
WHEREAS, For their efforts, the Nittany Lions finished the
season ranked seventh in the national Ratings Percentage Index
standings and fifth in the final National Field Hockey Coaches
Association poll; and
WHEREAS, These rankings were Penn State's highest end-of-
season rankings since the team's historic national championship
game in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Hall of Fame Head Coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss has
been named the Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year six times,
including this season; and
WHEREAS, This victory was coach Morett-Curtiss' 500th career
win and her third Big Ten title; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate The
Pennsylvania State University Field Hockey Team on winning the
