A RESOLUTION
Congratulating The Pennsylvania State University wrestling team
on their sixth National Collegiate Athletic Association
Division I championship in seven years.
WHEREAS, The Penn State wrestling team won its sixth National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I championship
in seven years on March 18, 2017; and
WHEREAS, The recent championship victory ties Penn State with
Oklahoma for the fourth most NCAA Division I team championships
since 1928; and
WHEREAS, Five Penn State wrestlers also won individual
national championships in their respective weight classes, tying
a record set by Iowa in 1997 and Oklahoma State in 2005; and
WHEREAS, The Penn State wrestling team is the first to win in
five consecutive weight classes; and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Zain Retherford won his second

NCAA wrestling title, has won 63 straight bouts and is tied for
Penn State's all-time NCAA wins list with 14; and
WHEREAS, During the 2016-2017 season Zain Retherford was
named the 2017 Hodge Award winner as the nation's top wrestler,
2017 NCAA Champion in the 149-pound weight class, 2017 NCAA
Championships Outstanding Wrestler, 2017 NCAA Most Dominant
Wrestler (season-long), 2017 Big Ten Champion in the 149-pound
weight class, 2017 Big Ten Championship Outstanding Wrestler,
2017 First Team All-Big Ten and 2017 Academic All-Big Ten; and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Jason Nolf won an NCAA wrestling
title in the 157-pound weight class, won a Big Ten championship,
won Big Ten Wrestler of the Year and finished a perfect season
at 27-0; and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Vincenzo Joseph won an NCAA
wrestling title in the 165-pound weight class; and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Mark Hall won an NCAA wrestling
title in the 174-pound weight class; and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Bo Nickal won an NCAA wrestling
title in the 184-pound weight class; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate The
Pennsylvania State University wrestling team on their sixth
National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I championship
in seven years.
