A RESOLUTION
Congratulating The Pennsylvania State University football team
for winning the Big Ten Championship on December 3, 2016.
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University (PSU) football
team finished as co-champions of the Big Ten East, a division
many college football pundits consider the toughest in the
nation; and
WHEREAS, After losing to the University of Michigan
Wolverines by 39 points on September 24, 2016, PSU went on to
win every regular season game on the way to a Big Ten
Championship; and
WHEREAS, During the 2016 season, PSU amassed 11 wins,
including 8 conference wins, which was capped with a victory
over the University of Wisconsin Badgers to claim the Big Ten
title; and

WHEREAS, On its quest for a Big Ten Championship, PSU
defeated conference rivals and number two Ohio State University
by a score of 24-21 on October 22, 2016; and
WHEREAS, On December 3, 2016, PSU squared off with Big Ten
West champions, the University of Wisconsin Badgers at Lucas Oil
Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana; and
WHEREAS, After falling behind 28-7 in the second quarter, PSU
would score 21 unanswered points; and
WHEREAS, The win over the University of Wisconsin gave PSU
its first Big Ten football championship in eight years; and
WHEREAS, Quarterback Trace McSorely was named the game's MVP
after finishing 22 of 31 passes for 384 yards with 4 touchdown
passes, breaking championship game records for yards and
touchdown passes; and
WHEREAS, Wide receiver Saeed Blacknall also set a
championship game record with 155 yards receiving; and
WHEREAS, As a result of PSU'S outstanding 2016 football
season, Coach James Franklin was voted by the media as the Dave
McClain Coach of the Year in the Big Ten, the 2016 recipient of
the Woody Hayes Coach of the Year Award, Sporting News National
Coach of the Year and the runner-up for the Associated Press
Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year award; and
WHEREAS, The 2016 Big Ten Championship is a testament to the
hard work and perseverance of the players and coaches of the PSU
Nittany Lions football team; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate The
Pennsylvania State University football team for winning the Big
Ten Championship on December 3, 2016.
