A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 7 through 13, 2017, as "National
Travel and Tourism Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The week of May 7 through 13, 2017, has been
selected as "National Travel and Tourism Week" by the U.S.
Travel Association; and
WHEREAS, "National Tourism Week" was established in 1983 when
the Congress of the United States passed a joint resolution
designating a week in May 1984 as "National Tourism Week" and,
in a White House ceremony, the President of the United States
signed a Presidential proclamation urging citizens to observe
the week with the appropriate ceremonies and activities; and
WHEREAS, Tourism is one of Pennsylvania's largest industries
and a major contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth,
accounting for an annual economic impact of nearly $40 billion;
and

WHEREAS, Tourism supports a work force of more than 304,000
people, with approximately 1 out of every 16 Pennsylvania jobs
relying on travel and tourism and related industries; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is one of the most-visited states in
the country, with an estimated 190 million domestic visits
annually; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 7
through 13, 2017, as "National Travel and Tourism Week" in
Pennsylvania.
