A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 14 through 20, 2017, as "National
Police Week" and recognizing May 15, 2017, as "Peace
Officers' Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Across the United States, the week of May 14 through
20, 2017, is being recognized as "National Police Week"; and
WHEREAS, On October 1, 1962, President John F. Kennedy
approved a joint resolution authorizing the President to
annually proclaim May 15 as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" and
the calendar week during which May 15 occurs as "Police Week";
and
WHEREAS, The first annual National Peace Officers' Memorial
Service was held on May 15, 1982; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives joins in remembering
the service and sacrifice of those police officers throughout

our nation who have died in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives honors the memory of
the hundreds of police officers who have given their lives in
the line of duty in this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of May 14 through 20, 2017, as "National Police Week" and
recognize May 15, 2017, as "Peace Officers' Memorial Day" in
Pennsylvania.
