A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of October 16 through 22, 2016, as
"National Chemistry Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "National Chemistry Week" is an annual event
designed to raise awareness of the importance of chemistry in
everyday life, and 2016 marks the 29th anniversary of "National
Chemistry Week"; and
WHEREAS, The mission of "National Chemistry Week" is to reach
the public, particularly elementary and secondary school
children, with positive messages about chemistry; and
WHEREAS, The American Chemical Society coordinates "National
Chemistry Week" each year to be a community-based initiative
that unites local sections of the society with schools,
businesses and individuals; and
WHEREAS, More than 96% of all manufactured goods involve some
form of chemistry, making chemistry an essential part of every

facet of this nation's economy; and
WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a significant
contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth, employing
nearly 47,000 people; and
WHEREAS, Chemistry provides powerful tools for solving this
world's mysteries, and this year's theme, "Solving Mysteries
Through Chemistry," focuses on the chemistry of forensics and
the use of chemistry to solve crimes, study the paintings of old
masters, solve mysteries in archeology and more; and
WHEREAS, The evolving science of chemistry is essential to
this Commonwealth's industry and the well-being of all
Pennsylvanians; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of October 16 through 22, 2016, as "National Chemistry
Week" in Pennsylvania.
