A RESOLUTION
Encouraging Pennsylvanians to participate in Project Blue Light.
WHEREAS, Police officers throughout this Commonwealth and
nation routinely risk their lives to protect the public from
threats from individuals or natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, Between 2010 and 2015, more than 800 police officers
have died and thousands more have suffered serious injuries in
the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, As of July 31, 2016, 69 officers have died in the
line of duty across the country; and
WHEREAS, We, the residents of this Commonwealth, often fail
to express our gratitude for the work of our police officers and
appreciation of the risks they take to protect us; and
WHEREAS, The vast majority of police officers who perform
their duties honestly and honorably are often forgotten when

attention focuses on the very few who at times do not; and
WHEREAS, The holiday season is a particularly dangerous time
for police officers; and
WHEREAS, Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S) adopted an
idea begun by the family of a Philadelphia police officer killed
in the line of duty to place a blue light in a window of their
home to honor the service of all police officers and remember
those officers who have died protecting their communities; and
WHEREAS, The C.O.P.S Project Blue Light was established to
encourage all citizens to place a blue light in their window
during the holiday season, from the night before Thanksgiving
until January 15; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage all
Pennsylvanians to participate in Project Blue Light this year by
placing a blue light in a window of their home to demonstrate
support for all police officers who faithfully serve our
communities.
