A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of October 16 through 22, 2016, as
"National Forest Products Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, It is important to recognize "National Forest
Products Week" to remind Pennsylvanians of the unique
contributions the forest products industry has made to the
history, texture and quality of life in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, The first paper mill in the United States was
founded in Pennsylvania in 1690; and
WHEREAS, More than 10% of this Commonwealth's manufacturing
work force is involved in the industry, with approximately
60,000 Pennsylvanians making a livelihood connected to the
industry; and
WHEREAS, Forest products encompass an incredibly wide range
of products with nearly limitless everyday uses from
facilitating education, communications, hygiene, food storage
and product protection to providing shelter and adding beauty to

our homes; and
WHEREAS, There are more than 3,000 separate businesses
involved in the forest products industry with a presence in
every county of this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The industry's responsible stewardship of our
forests and commitment to sustainable practices are the reasons
that Pennsylvania has more forests today than 25 years ago; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Forest Products Association,
representing all sectors of the forest products industry, was
created in 1980 to provide a unified voice on State legislative
and regulatory issues; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Hardwoods Development Council
within the Department of Agriculture is charged with the
promotion, development and expansion of the State's hardwoods
industry; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania WoodMobile, the traveling
educational exhibit made possible by the joint partnership
between the industry and the Pennsylvania Hardwoods Development
Council, will "go urban" during "National Forest Products Week"
with visits to Philadelphia, Allentown, Bethlehem, Scranton,
Wilkes-Barre, Erie and Pittsburgh; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of October 16 through 22, 2016, as "National Forest
Products Week" in Pennsylvania.
