A RESOLUTION
Honoring the law enforcement officers who lost their lives in
the targeted attacks in Dallas, Texas, and Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, and extending condolences to the families and
friends of the victims and to the members of the Dallas and
Baton Rouge communities.
WHEREAS, On July 7, 2016, a single gunman armed with an
assault-style rifle opened fire on a peaceful protest in Dallas,
Texas, in an effort to murder as many law enforcement officers
as possible; and
WHEREAS, The gunman killed five law enforcement officers and
wounded nine during that tragic and senseless act of hatred and
violence; and
WHEREAS, The Dallas law enforcement officers killed in the
line of duty are Brent Thompson, age 43, who had recently
married, Michael Krol, age 40, who was an eight-year veteran of

the Dallas Police Department, Patrick Zamarripa, age 32, who was
a husband and the father of a daughter and stepson, Lorne
Ahrens, age 48, who was a husband and the father of a 10-year-
old daughter and an eight-year-old son, and Michael Smith, age
55, who was a husband and the father of 14-year-old and 10-year-
old daughters and who was a 27-year veteran of the Dallas Police
Department; and
WHEREAS, Just 10 days after the Dallas shooting, on July 17,
2016, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, three law enforcement officers
were killed and three more were wounded by a single gunman armed
with an assault-style rifle; and
WHEREAS, The Baton Rouge law enforcement officers killed in
the line of duty are Montrell Jackson, age 32, who was a husband
and the father of a four-month-old son, Matthew Gerald, age 41,
who was a husband and the father of two daughters, and Brad
Garafola, age 45, who was a husband and the father of four
children; and
WHEREAS, President Barack Obama has stated that an attack on
law enforcement is an attack on all of us and that the deaths of
the law enforcement officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge
underscore the danger law enforcement officers nationwide face
every day; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Dallas and Baton Rouge communities
have come together to show their support through a fundraising
campaign that has raised more than $700,000 for the families of
the fallen law enforcement officers; and
WHEREAS, All Federal, state and local law enforcement
personnel performed their duties admirably during the Dallas and
Baton Rouge attacks and risked their lives for the safety of the
citizens of their cities; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania honor the law enforcement officers
who lost their lives in the targeted attacks in Dallas, Texas,
and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and extend condolences to the
families and friends of the victims and to the members of the
Dallas and Baton Rouge communities; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania express its strong support for the
survivors of the shootings and the residents of Dallas, Texas,
and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as they heal their bodies and
communities; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania denounce violence against law
enforcement officers across the United States who work every day
to keep this country safe; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
Dallas Mayor Michael Rawlings and Baton Rouge Mayor-President
Melvin Holden.
