A RESOLUTION
Paying tribute to those who lost their lives during the
nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, and extending
condolences to the families and friends of the victims as
well as to the City of Orlando, Florida.
WHEREAS, At approximately 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2016,
a gunman carried an assault rifle and a pistol into Pulse, a gay
nightclub in Orlando, Florida, that was bustling with at least
300 people who had been enjoying the night's events; and
WHEREAS, The gunman opened fire, killing 49 people and
injuring at least 53 people, according to officials; and
WHEREAS, While law enforcement agencies are still
investigating the incident, many officials, including President
Barack Obama, have said the shooting was an act of hate and
terror; and
WHEREAS, The attack is the deadliest mass shooting in United

States history and the nation's worst terror attack since
September 11, 2001; and
WHEREAS, A uniformed police officer working at Pulse was the
first to respond to the incident by exchanging gunfire with the
gunman; and
WHEREAS, In total, approximately 100 officers from the Orange
County Sheriff's Office and the Orlando Police Department
responded to the scene, in addition to a SWAT team, all of whom
acted with bravery in risking their lives to stop the shooter
and prevent further loss of lives; and
WHEREAS, Monuments around the world were lit up or left dark
to honor the victims of the shooting and to stand in solidarity
with Orlando, Florida; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Orlando, Florida, community
immediately reacted to help the victims of the shooting, with
hundreds of people lining up to donate blood; and
WHEREAS, A fundraising campaign for the victims and their
families amassed more than $2 million in just one day; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania notes the imperative of adding its voice to the
outpouring of support to the victims, their families and all
residents of Orlando, Florida; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania denounces the killing of innocent people and the
use of violence to express hate and inflict terror; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania pay tribute to all those who lost
their lives during the nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania extend its deepest condolences to
the families and friends of the victims; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania thank the emergency responders and
law enforcement officers who risked their lives to protect their
community, as well as all those who sought to help victims
during and after the shooting; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania express its strong support for the
survivors of the shooting as well as all residents of Orlando,
Florida, in their recovery and healing; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania commit to doing what it can to
combat the proliferation of hate, terror and violence in our
communities and in our Commonwealth; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
Mayor Buddy Dyer, City Hall, 400 South Orange Avenue, P.O. Box
4990, Orlando, Florida 32802-4990.
