A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of May 2016 as "Cancer Caregivers
Recognition Month" in Pennsylvania and honoring the vital
role caregivers play in the lives of cancer patients.
WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society estimates that there
will be 1,685,210 new cases of cancer diagnosed in the United
States in 2016, with 83,560 new cases in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Known as family caregivers or lay caregivers, unpaid
caregivers are usually spouses, partners or adult children, with
close friends, coworkers and neighbors often filling this role
when family members are not nearby or are unavailable; and
WHEREAS, Families provide about 80% of home-care services;
and
WHEREAS, Caregivers are an important part of the health care
team and provide a complex array of support tasks that extend
across physical, psychological, spiritual and emotional domains;
