A RESOLUTION
Recognizing April 7, 2016, as "World Health Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "World Health Day" annually elaborates on global
health priorities of the World Health Organization, the United
Nations' directing and coordinating authority for health; and
WHEREAS, April 7, the date of the World Health Organization's
founding in 1948, is set aside for this global observance; and
WHEREAS, Key messages for 2016 "World Health Day" events
relate to the global prevalence of diabetes, including the
documented increase of this chronic metabolic disease throughout
low-income and middle-income countries; and
WHEREAS, The World Health Organization has established a
global target to halt the rise in diabetes and obesity by 2025;
and
WHEREAS, Coordinated approaches by government agencies,

nongovernmental organizations, private entities and individuals
are required for reducing premature mortality from
noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes; and
WHEREAS, The first global report on diabetes, detailing the
scale of the epidemic and setting forth stronger health systems
in keeping with World Health Organization goals of improving
surveillance, enhancing prevention and more effectively and
affordably managing diabetes, is slated for release on April 6,
2016; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives joins the World Health
Organization in addressing public health concerns relating to
the incidence and prevalence of diabetes among children and
adults in this Commonwealth and beyond; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize April
7, 2016, as "World Health Day" in Pennsylvania.
