A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and legacy of Dr. William E. DeMuth, Jr., and
expressing gratitude for his contributions to this
Commonwealth as a founding member of the Pennsylvania
Division of the American Trauma Society.
WHEREAS, Dr. William E. DeMuth, Jr., was born April 3, 1921,
in Altoona; and
WHEREAS, Dr. DeMuth graduated from Franklin and Marshall
College in 1943 with a degree in biology and from the University
of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1946; and
WHEREAS, After being drafted into the United States Army in
1943 while in college, Dr. DeMuth served his country for 11
years; and
WHEREAS, While serving in the Army, Dr. DeMuth acted as Chief
of Surgical Services at the 376th Station Hospital in Japan; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his long and distinguished career Dr.
DeMuth authored over 100 medical publications; and
WHEREAS, Dr. DeMuth served as Chief of Surgery at Carlisle
Hospital from 1953 until 1971; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, Dr. DeMuth was a driving force behind the
