A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company and
congratulating them on their 100th anniversary.
WHEREAS, The Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company was organized
in November 1915 in Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County,
after a fire destroyed a barn and livestock on the property of
the Whitemarsh Inn; and
WHEREAS, A group of citizens applied for a State charter to
organize the fire company, which was granted by Judge John Faber
Miller on September 5, 1916; and
WHEREAS, Fire company meetings were held in local businesses
until a modern firehouse was built; and
WHEREAS, The land for the new firehouse was purchased from
the Henry H. Houston Estate and the building was dedicated on
February 28, 1925; and
WHEREAS, After outgrowing the firehouse, the fire company

broke ground for a new building on July 4, 1971, and the
building, which is still in use today, was dedicated on August
26, 1972; and
WHEREAS, Today the Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company is
staffed almost entirely by volunteer members and serves the
nearly 17,000 residents of Whitemarsh by providing fire
prevention education, participating in community events and
responding to approximately 500 annual calls for emergency
service; and
WHEREAS, The fire company houses state-of-the-art apparatus,
which equips Barren Hill to respond to a range of emergencies,
including calls for fire suppression, vehicle rescue and water
rescue; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company and congratulate them on
their 100th anniversary.
