A RESOLUTION
Honoring the National Fraternal Order of Police on the occasion
of its 100th anniversary.
WHEREAS, The Fraternal Order of Police represents
professional, full-time officers from all agencies of law
enforcement; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1915 in the City of Pittsburgh, the
Fraternal Order of Police is the nation's largest professional
law enforcement organization; and
WHEREAS, On May 14, 1915, under the leadership of Patrol
Officers Martin Toole and Delbert Nagle, Pittsburgh Police
officers meeting at the Wabash Station Building at Ferry Street

and Liberty Avenue adopted the name of Fraternal Order of
Police; and
WHEREAS, At that time, Fort Pitt Lodge No. 1 was established
to improve the working conditions and job security of police
officers; and
WHEREAS, The national organization, instituted in 1917, is
nonpartisan and operates without bias regarding race, creed or
color; and
WHEREAS, More than 320,000 members from more than 2,100
lodges support charitable projects, advocate for safer
communities and seek improved working conditions for law
enforcement officers nationwide; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Lodge, established in 1934,
has nearly 40,000 law enforcement members from 107 subordinate
lodges representing different types of State and municipal
police agencies; and
WHEREAS, From August 9 through 13, 2015, National Fraternal
Order of Police members are convening at the David L. Lawrence
Convention Center in the City of Pittsburgh to mark the
centennial; and
WHEREAS, Participating law enforcement officials include:
police chiefs, administrators, sheriffs, training officers,
fleet managers, Federal officers, correction officers and
procurement officers; and
WHEREAS, The PA FOP 100th, LLC, is overseeing this centennial
observance in conjunction with the 62nd National Conference and
Exposition; and
WHEREAS, The National Fraternal Order of Police, our nation's
largest law enforcement labor organization, has consistently
supported working law enforcement officers, retirees and

survivors of fallen officers since its founding 100 years ago in
this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
National Fraternal Order of Police on the occasion of its 100th
anniversary.
