A RESOLUTION
Designating May 14, 2015, as "Apraxia Awareness Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a motor speech
disorder where children have problems making speech sounds
because the brain has difficulty planning the motor and muscle
movements needed for speech; and
WHEREAS, While the cause of CAS is not well understood, it is
a neurological disorder without any apparent brain injury and
most children seem to be born with CAS; and
WHEREAS, Children with CAS do not follow typical patterns of
developing sounds and speech; and
WHEREAS, When CAS is most severe, children struggle to make
sounds and children with a moderate or milder form struggle with
syllables and words; and
WHEREAS, While the frequency of CAS is not well understood,
