A RESOLUTION
Recognizing Magee Rehabilitation Hospital on its 57th
anniversary of providing specialized health care services to
the residents of Pennsylvania and beyond.
WHEREAS, Opened in March, 1958, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital
is the oldest rehabilitation hospital in Philadelphia and is
located in Center City Philadelphia, at 1513 Race Street,
adjacent to Interstate 676 and in close proximity to Interstate
95 and Interstate 76; and
WHEREAS, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital is a 96-bed, nonprofit
hospital providing state-of-the-art rehabilitation treatment
therapies and medical care to individuals who have experienced
traumatic injury and illnesses such as spinal cord injury, brain
injury, stroke, amputation and other neurological disorders and
diseases; and
WHEREAS, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital employs 629 staff
members who collectively provide advanced, highly skilled

medical and rehabilitation therapies to 4,500 patients annually;
and
WHEREAS, Many of Magee Rehabilitation Hospital's patients are
economically disadvantaged and struggle to meet their basic
needs; and
WHEREAS, Twenty-six percent of inpatients and 49% of
outpatients at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital are eligible for
medical assistance and are deemed low income; and
WHEREAS, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital offers innovative
programs such as the Vision Clinic at Magee, dedicated to the
treatment and recovery from the ill-effects of visual impairment
as a result of brain injury, and the Philadelphia Concussion
Center, dedicated to the treatment and recovery from the ill
effects of concussion; and
WHEREAS, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital is consistently
recognized as one of the United States News and World Report
Best Hospitals and is accredited by the Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the Commission on
Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities; and
WHEREAS, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital was the first facility
in the nation to be accredited in brain injury rehabilitation;
and
WHEREAS, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital is a founding member
of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation's NeuroRecovery
Network and is at the forefront of treatment for people living
with spinal cord injuries, currently studying improvements to
the way facilities the world over treat spinal cord injuries and
their secondary complications; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize Magee
Rehabilitation Hospital on its 57th anniversary of providing

specialized health care services and congratulate it for its
dedication, commitment and distinguished service to the health
care needs of the residents of this Commonwealth and beyond.
